The 18th Oba Abimbola Oyedokun Memorial Lecture took place at Saki City Hall on Tuesday, December 30th, 2025. Titled “The Development Okeogun Youths Need: A Call for Collective Responsibility”, the event drew representatives from 20 secondary schools as key participants .
The President of Ife Varsity, Saki Students’ Union, Obafemi Awolowo University, Babarinde Godwin, emphasized the need to connect Saki youths to the global economy through Artificial Intelligence (AI). Speaking at the 18th Oba Abimbola Oyedokun Memorial Lecture, Godwin stated that the event aims to equip secondary school students from Saki and Okeogun area with AI skills to maximize opportunities .
He assured that, students who participated in the educational program will receive follow-up and reorientation on Artificial Intelligence (AI) skills. “Participants will be contacted through their provided data”,he stated
Godwin advised the young students to pursue their passions in academics and future endeavors, rather than emulating peers. “Don’t be held back by environmental disadvantages,” he emphasized .
He also highlighted synergy among unions of other institutions and solicited support from stakeholders for the students, noting, “They are the leaders and future of the community”.
Guest Speaker at the event, Dr. Niyi Ojo, emphasized the importance of education as the bedrock to success in life, recalling how the students’ union served as a unifying platform for students from diverse backgrounds, bridging political and religious divides in the community.
Despite challenges, Dr. Ojo assured that the annual lecture is overcoming obstacles and will continue to inspire youths. He urged students to focus on their education and be diligent to become assets to their community and country.
He said education is the bedrock to success in life and encouraged the young ones to face their education squarely and be diligent so that they can be assets to their community and country at large.
Three speakers engaged themselves in an interactive session, unveiling the vast opportunities in Artificial Intelligence (AI). They highlighted roles such as Project Developers, Digital Marketers, Data Analysts, and Data Scientists, emphasizing AI’s potential to shape their future.
The speakers encouraged the young students to be curious, think deeply, and turn the impossible into possible. “AI isn’t just for the best brains in class,” they noted, urging students to explore and add value to their endeavors .
The students also commended the organizers for the opportunity given to them with a view to learning how to go Global legitimately through Artificial intelligence Networks and also said the program exposed the young ones against limit their talent to where they can reach in life in a modern way practice.
