2027: Oyo APC youths say they cannot afford to be in opposition again

Oyo State’s All Progressives Congress (APC) youth wing has unveiled a set of strategies designed to win back the Agodi Government House in the 2027 general elections and to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for re‑election. Their plan includes strengthening party structures, boosting youth participation, and promoting internal democracy, while urging members to rally around a common agenda of unity and development.

The meeting convened party leaders, youth representatives, and grassroots mobilisers from every part of the state. Organised by the APC Youth Wing, the gathering focused on tackling internal challenges and preparing the party for the upcoming elections..

The youths emphasized that the APC cannot afford to stay in opposition in the state beyond 2027, urging party members to unite around a common purpose in order to realize their shared objectives.

At the 2025 Oyo State APC Summit and Interactive Session in Ibadan held under the theme “Oyo State APC Today and Tomorrow”, the Oyo State APC Youth Leader, Comrade John Aremu, stated that young people are the backbone of any political party.

He explained that the summit was organized to assemble key stakeholders, youth leaders, critical thinkers, and party loyalists in order to evaluate the party’s present situation and outline its future trajectory.

Aremu added that the theme underscored the youths’ collective dedication to reinforcing party structures, boosting youth involvement, and preparing the APC for victory in the 2027 elections.

“The youths are the strength of today and the custodians of tomorrow. No party can grow beyond the space it creates for its youths to contribute, innovate, and lead,” he said.

He added, “We charge our great party to continue giving youths genuine avenues to showcase their talents and leadership abilities. When youths are empowered, the party becomes stronger, more united, and more relevant to the people.”

During his guest lecture, Senator Tokunbo Afikuyomi urged the party to harness President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s flagship programmes in order to reclaim Oyo State. He described the state as vital to the party’s broader advancement and warned that it must not be lost again in the 2027 elections.

Afikuyomi also called for stronger internal democracy and unity among all party factions in preparation for the polls. “We must craft our own narrative so that the people can relate to us and we can relate to them,” he said. “Our reward system needs improvement, because youths and women are essential stakeholders in the party’s victory.”

Hon. Aderemi Oseni, the lawmaker representing Ido/Ibarapa East Federal Constituency, also spoke, stating that discipline is vital for the party’s progress.

He remarked that the summit was timely, as realigning membership and fostering reconciliation have become essential. Oseni expressed confidence that the APC will regain its former standing in Oyo State by 2027 and emphasized that the party’s future rests with its youth.
