The Okere of Sakiland, Oba (Dr.) Surv. Khalid Oyeniyi Olabisi Oyedepo III, has appealed for the unconditional release of prospective members of the National Youth Service Corps abducted while travelling to their orientation camp.
One of the victims, Hazzan Usman, is an indigene of Saki, Oyo State.
The monarch, in a statement made available on Saturday, sympathised with the victims, their families, Nigerians and the people of Oyo State, particularly the people of Saki, describing the abduction as distressing and a source of anxiety to the affected families.
He urged the abductors to have compassion and release the victims unconditionally, noting that the young graduates were only responding to the call to serve their country.
The monarch also urged Nigerians, particularly the affected families, to remain calm and fervent in prayers for the safe return of those still in captivity.
He called on security agencies to intensify their efforts and sustain coordinated operations towards securing the release of the remaining victims.
The Paramount Ruler commended the security operatives for what he described as their frantic efforts, which had led to the release of 10 of the abducted prospective corps members.
He, however, urged the security agencies not to relent until all the victims are safely reunited with their families.
The monarch said, “As a custodian of the community, I am extremely pained and emotionally disturbed by this unfortunate development, particularly because one of the victims is an indigene of my community.
“My heart goes out to the parents, families and loved ones of all the abducted prospective corps members at this difficult moment.
“I passionately appeal to those holding these young Nigerians to release them unconditionally. They are innocent young graduates who are only responding to the call of their fatherland. They should not be made to suffer for what they know nothing about.
“Please, release them unconditionally. Their parents and families have been subjected to unbearable pain, fear and uncertainty. Their safe return will bring immeasurable relief to their loved ones.”
The Okere also called on the government and security agencies to deploy all necessary resources towards securing the safe release of the remaining victims.
He prayed for divine intervention, protection and the safe return of the abducted prospective corps members to their families.
