begins distribution of POS Machines to 200 Saki West residents
The Allied Peoples Movement(APM) candidate for Saki West State Constituency in the 2027 Oyo State House of Assembly election, Hon. Salaudeen Kabeer Adebayo (SKA), has commenced the distribution of Point of Sale (POS) machines to 200 residents across the 11 wards of Saki West LGA.
The empowerment programme, which commenced on Thursday at the Saki West Legislative Chamber, is part of Adebayo’s grassroots economic intervention, designed to support petty traders, youths and other residents engaged in small-scale businesses.
The first batch comprises 50 beneficiaries, while the remaining beneficiaries are expected to be selected and supported in subsequent phases.
The lawmaker Hopeful, said the initiative was conceived against the backdrop of the economic difficulties confronting many households, particularly the challenge of accessing modest capital with which to establish sustainable means of livelihood.
He said the POS machines were intended to provide the beneficiaries with an avenue for income generation, promote self-reliance and facilitate digital financial transactions at the grassroots.
“This empowerment is part of my commitment to economic inclusion and community development. We must continue to support our traders and small business owners who play a vital role in sustaining our local economy,” he said.
In his opening remarks, the APM candidate said the intervention was not merely about distributing machines but about creating opportunities through which beneficiaries could build sustainable livelihoods.
According to him, many youths and women possess the willingness to work but are constrained by inadequate capital and limited opportunities to establish businesses.
He urged the beneficiaries to regard the POS machines as “seeds” capable of yielding greater economic opportunities if properly managed.
“To our beneficiaries, I want to say this: this POS machine in your hands is a seed. Nurture it. Use it wisely. Grow it. Let it be the beginning of something bigger for you,” he said.
Adebayo, who is also the Majority Leader of the Saki West LG Legislative Council, expressed optimism that some of the beneficiaries would eventually grow their businesses to the extent of becoming employers of labour.
He added that the programme would be sustained in phases to extend its reach to more residents across the constituency.
“This is just the beginning. By the grace of God Almighty, we will continue to roll out more empowerment programmes that will touch the lives of our youths, our women and our people across all wards in Saki West,” he said.
On his parts, the APM candidate for Saki East/Saki West/ATISBO Federal Constituency, Hon. Adeniyi Olabode Adebisi, who also spoke at the event, said Adebayo’s intervention affirmed the importance of initiating community development from the grassroots.
The fmr. Commissioner said the decision to commence small-scale empowerment before assuming elective office reflected, in his view, the importance of community interventions that address immediate economic needs.
He said the POS empowerment would continue in phases to accommodate more constituents.
Addressing the beneficiaries, the resource person, Mr Araromi Olumide, disclosed that those selected for the programme would undergo appropriate training before receiving their POS machines.
He stressed the importance of equipping beneficiaries with the requisite knowledge to operate the machines effectively and maximise the economic opportunities associated with the intervention.
The event was attended by party and community stakeholders, including Adebayo; Adebisi; Comrade Olanrewaju Lawrence Olawale; Mrs Kazeem Saidat; ward chairmen, women leaders, secretaries and youth leaders; Hon. Waheed Yekeen Olanrewaju; Hon. Jinaad Adenike; special assistants to the councils; supervisory councillors and councillors.
