Makinde Isn’t reliable, Says Dotun Sanusi

A business mogul, Engr. Dotun Jubril Sanusi, has criticised Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, describing him as a politician who fails to keep promises made to those who supported his political aspirations.

Sanusi made the remark on Monday during a courtesy visit to the residence of a chieftain of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Oyo State, Alhaji Adebisi Aremu Olopoeyan, in the Ikolaba area of Basorun, Ibadan.

The visit coincided with Olopoeyan’s declaration of support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second-term ambition ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Olopoeyan, who acknowledged his longstanding relationship with Tinubu, said he was prepared to support the President’s re-election bid despite his affiliation with the APM.

The APM chieftain maintained that political alliances across party lines were not new in Nigeria, citing Makinde’s alleged political manoeuvres during the 2023 presidential election as an example.

According to him, Makinde, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had supported the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, but later allegedly backed Tinubu.

Olopoeyan argued that politicians had the right to support candidates of their choice based on personal conviction, insisting that political affiliation should not prevent individuals from aligning with candidates they believed in.

He said his decision to support Tinubu was informed by his longstanding relationship with the President and his readiness to contribute to his second-term ambition.

The declaration signals a political shift in Olopoeyan’s positioning ahead of the 2027 elections, particularly amid emerging alliances and disagreements among political actors in Oyo State.

Sanusi, in his remarks, accused Makinde of disappointing individuals who supported him in his political journey, alleging that the governor had failed to honour promises made to his supporters.

He described the governor as someone who could not be relied upon to fulfil his commitments, arguing that those who stood by him during his political aspirations had not received the expected returns for their support.
