Hon. Agbarapo Samuel, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has called for a renewed focus on people-oriented governance in Oyo State, stressing that citizens deserve concrete benefits from democracy rather than unfulfilled promises.
Speaking on his vision for the state, Agbarapo said, “In a time when the expectations of the people are high and the rewards of democracy seem distant, the call for purposeful, compassionate, and result-driven leadership has never been more urgent.”
He maintained that governance must translate into real improvements in the daily lives of citizens. “The people of Oyo State deserve more than promises—they deserve visible, measurable, and sustainable progress. They deserve the true dividend of democracy,” he added.
Agbarapo, who previously served in the Oyo State House of Assembly and currently holds the position of Special Adviser to the Governor on Legislative Matters, described his aspiration as service-driven. “My aspiration is not driven by ambition alone, but by a deep understanding of the struggles of the common man and a genuine desire to bring governance closer to the people,” he said.
Highlighting key areas of focus, he noted that economic empowerment would be central to his agenda. “We must create jobs, support small businesses, and boost agriculture to ensure food security and financial independence,” he stated.
On education, he emphasized the need for reform and investment. “We will revitalize our schools, invest in teachers, and equip our youth with the skills they need for the future,” Agbarapo said.
He also underscored the importance of accessible healthcare. “Strengthening primary healthcare systems and ensuring affordable medical services for all is not optional—it is essential,” he said.
Addressing infrastructure and security, Agbarapo added, “We must build and rehabilitate roads, improve rural connectivity, and expand urban development, while working closely with security agencies and communities to ensure peace across the state.”
He further called for inclusiveness in governance, particularly for young people and women. “Empowering the next generation and giving women a stronger voice in governance is critical to sustainable development,” he noted.
Agbarapo emphasized that his leadership approach would be anchored on accountability and transparency. “Leadership is a responsibility, not a privilege—and I am prepared to serve with integrity and dedication,” he said.
He concluded with a call to action for residents of the state, urging them to embrace a new direction. “The journey to a greater Oyo State begins with a choice—a choice to move forward, a choice to embrace progress, and a choice to entrust leadership to someone who truly understands the people,” he said.
Reinforcing his message in Yoruba, he declared, “Ki iṣe rere lẹ tesiwaju! Agbarapo lo le ṣe!”,a slogan highlighting his commitment to delivering good governance.
