The Ago-Are community has turbaned Sheikh Sulayman Adedeji Akewukewee as its 4th Grand Chief Imam, marking another significant history in the community’s spiritual journey. The ceremony, held on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at NUD Primary School, Ago-Are, was attended by dignitaries, Islamic scholars, and community residents.
The Executive Chairman of ATISBO LGA, Hon. Bashir Olumuyiwa Alade, praised Sheikh Akewukewee’s appointment, citing his wealth of knowledge, outstanding character, and leadership qualities. He emphasized that ,the position of Grand Chief Imam carries significant responsibility, requiring guidance and service to the community, rather than mere ceremonial duties. Alade also urged unity and harmonious relations among all religious groups in the community.
The Deputy Governor’s representative, Hassan Ajibade, Esq., Special Assistant on Legal matters, stated that Okeogun communities have set a new precedent by appointing educated and knowledgeable individuals to lead the Muslim community, thereby changing the narrative.
Dr. Seidu Bello,a prominent figure, provided a detailed account of the emergence of the 4th Imam, commending the stakeholders involved in the process for their courage and composure, which led to a peaceful and harmonious selection. He noted that the new Imam’s return from the diaspora made it necessary to build a modern Mission House equipped with necessary facilities to support his leadership.
Sheikh Ajagbemokefe delivered a thought-provoking lecture, stating that the appointment of the new Imam is a divine decree. He exhorted the Imam to adhere to Islamic principles, promoting truth, unity, peaceful coexistence, and serving as a beacon of guidance for the community.
The traditional leaders present at the event described the new Imam as a true and detribalized Nigerian, unbound by religious affiliations, and fervently prayed that God would grant him the wisdom and knowledge necessary to effectively lead the Muslim community.
Ayobami Ojo, Esq.,a respected figure, attested to the new Imam’s humble origins and virtuous character, expressing confidence that he would lead the Muslim community with impartiality and fairness.
In an interview with journalists, Sheikh Akewukewee expressed his sincere gratitude for being appointed to lead the Muslim community. He appealed for the support and solidarity of the community to enable him to successfully discharge his duties and meet the challenges ahead.
The event also featured a fundraising drive, aiming to raise ₦250 million for the construction of a modern Mission House.
The event was attended by notable dignitaries, including Hon. Kareem Tajudeen, Hon. Ridwan Saminu Gbamosi, Hon. Busari Yakubu Adewale, Engr. Tosin Kolade Awodi-Oke, and Alh. Hammed Mutawakil Olaide. Also present were traditional leaders such as Aare of Ago-Are, Oba Abodunrin Kofoworola, Alagere of Ago-Are, Oba Azeez Utman Oyetunde, and Oloto of Ago-Are, Oba Azeez Omofoyewa, among other esteemed guests.
