..pledges more surgical interventions
As part of its continued efforts targeted at assisting the underprivileged who lack access to medical care, the Association of Rural Surgical Practitioners of Nigeria (ARSPON), has successfully carried out a 3-day free surgical outreach for the residents of Okeho community, in Kajola Local Government Area of Oyo State.
During the outreach, a team of surgeons performed surgeries on more than 100 individuals including adults and children who suffered from various surgical ailments.
This edition which took place at Wuraola Hospital, Okeho between Friday, 8th November and Sunday ,10th November, featured free hernia and lump surgeries as well as health talks.
Also, continued medical education was organised to improve Medical expertise among members.
On his parts, the Chairman of the occasion and former Chairman of the Council Area, Hon. Afolabi Salimonu , popularly called ” Borikansunwon” charged the organization to be more committed to mentoring practitioners and monitoring members to uphold quality services and eradicate quackery within the profession.
Speaking on the development, the State Coordinator of the association, Dr. G.S Ogunsina, reinstated commitments to service through humanity, saying it is targeting 100,000 indigent Nigerians for free surgical operations on various ailments in the next five years.
He said the medical mission has been on track to improve the well-being of the vulnerables at the grassroots, soliciting support for its sustainability.
“The major objective for the outreach is to assist individuals who lack access to healtcare services for multiple reasons because some persons have underlying ailment and are dying in silence as a result of lack of funds to pay medical bills. We urge all critical stakeholders to support this mission.”
In her goodwill mesaage, the National President of ARSPON, Associate Professor Oyebola Adekola, reiterated the organization’s enduring dedication to community service, assuring that the association would continue to render selfless service to the people.
The Onjo of Okeho ,Oba Rafiu Osuolale ( represented) appreciated the association for the free outreach and urged other stakeholders to provide medical care for the less privileged who cannot afford medical bills.
Some of the beneficiaries, expressed gratitude to God and ARSPON for the free surgical intervention.
One beneficiary, Mathew Oluwafemi expressed his appreciation, saying, “I am thankful to ARSPON for providing the opportunity for my child to undergo surgery without any need to worry about the financial cost. Their generosity has truly changed my child’s narrative.”
