A storm of controversy has erupted in Ibadan, Oyo State, as Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration is accused of demolishing properties belonging to his former deputy, Remi Olaniyan, allegedly as a political vendetta.
According to eyewitnesses, a team from the Ministry of Physical Planning and Control, Oyo State, arrived at Olaniyan’s property along Ojoo Expressway early today, January 14, 2026, and began demolition work. The leader of the team claimed they were acting on orders from Commissioner for Lands, Akin Funmilayo.
The move has sparked outrage, with accusations that Makinde is targeting his former deputy for political reasons. Olaniyan, who served as Makinde’s deputy, has been a vocal critic of the governor’s administration.
The Oyo State Government has yet to comment on the matter, but sources close to the administration hint that the demolition is part of a larger effort to develop the Ojoo Expressway area.
