The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, has cautioned content creators to refrain from sharing misleading or unverified information, warning that offenders will face legal consequences.
His statement follows the parade of a suspect accused of distributing a doctored video that falsely suggested terrorists had taken over parts of Abuja. Police investigations revealed that the clip was created using outdated footage and deliberately edited to spark fear among residents.
Authorities emphasized the dangers of misinformation, particularly on sensitive security issues, noting that such content can trigger panic and disturb public peace. They advised citizens to confirm the authenticity of information before sharing it with others.
