Don’t install APC member as Asa-Ooni, PDP writes Osun governor

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has warned Governor Ademola Adeleke not to install a member of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) as Asa-Ooni of Ora-Igbomina in Ifedayo Local Government of the state.

Speaking under the auspices of Concerned PDP Members in Ifedayo local government, the Coordinator of the Forum, Ayo Fadeyan, in a letter to Governor Ademola Adeleke and his cabinet members for their notification and necessary action on the burning issue, a copy of which was obtained by our correspondent on Monday, the group warned the governor not to be influenced by the opposition APC.

Speaking on the alleged insinuation that Governor Adeleke has been pressurised by the members of APC in connivance with certain members of the PDP in the state to approve an APC member as Asaooni of Ora-Igbomina by jettisoning the ongoing legal suit in HOS/95/2024 in respect of the said stool, the group warned Adeleke to desist from the plan.

“We are using this opportunity to appeal to our amiable Excellency, Asiwaju Ademola Adeleke, not to allow APC members, in collaboration with certain PDP elements, to mislead the Governor to approve anyone out of the candidates contesting for the Asaooni stool when the matter is before the Court of Law.

“We are shown concern because of the interest of the PDP at our heart, as some certain elements can decamp to sister party and be shifting the blame on our leader, Asiwaju Ademola Adeleke, after they might have misled our amiable governor on certain decisions.

“Your Excellency Sir, we want to draw your attention to certain actions taken by the APC Government during their administration with respect to the Obaship stool in the state, like Igbajo, Iwo, Ikirun, Iree, Awo, and some other towns, which are too numerous to mention and everything is now history.

“We are not saying our amiable Governor Adeleke should politicize the Chieftaincy stool of Asa-Ooni, but it is our belief that any person to be chosen should be a man of unquestionable character and his pedigree must speak volumes and such person should not be the one being padded around that was allegedly rusticated from the University over cultism, school result racketing and examination malpractices with unruly and bad behaviours as contained in our said earlier letter,” the letter added.

The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matter, Dosu Babatunde, has said the government is not doing politics with chieftaincy matters, insisting that whoever is qualified should occupy the stool

“If the person that is qualified is from AAA or FDS, let it be. That is what the community wants. We are not doing politics with chieftaincy matters,” Babatunde said.
