The Federal Government has announced Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays to commemorate this year’s Eid-el-Fitr.
The declaration was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the government.
This was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Magdalene Ajani, who conveyed the minister’s goodwill message to Muslim faithful on the successful completion of the Ramadan fast.
Tunji-Ojo congratulated adherents of Islam for observing the holy month and urged them to uphold the values of love, generosity, tolerance, peace and selflessness imbibed during the period.
He also called on Nigerians to use the occasion to offer prayers for the nation’s peace, unity and sustained development.
While wishing Muslims a joyful Eid-el-Fitr celebration, the minister advised citizens to celebrate in moderation and extend acts of compassion to the less privileged.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Federal Government to promoting unity and harmonious coexistence among all Nigerians.
