FMC: Citizen Peter Amao tells Hon.Abisodun Kareem not to duplicate efforts, team fires Back

A member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oorelope Local Government, Dr Peter Amao, has urged Hon Abisodun Kareem, representing Saki West/Saki East/Atisbo Federal Constituency, not to duplicate efforts regarding the establishment of a Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Oke Ogun Area of Oyo State.

Dr Amao expressed concern over Hon Kareem’s sponsorship of a Bill for the Establishment of an FMC in Saki, stating it amounted to a disservice to Irepo/Olorunsogo/Oorelope Federal Constituency, which is close to achieving the same feat through a bill sponsored by Hon Olumide Ojerinde in the 9th House of Representatives. The bill, supported by Rep Olaide Mohammed and Senator Fatai Buhari, is awaiting presidential assent.

“As a true son of Irepo/Olorunsogo/Oorelope Federal constituency and a card-carrying member of the APC, I must respectfully express concern over your intention to redirect the Federal Medical Centre to Saki,” Dr Amao said in a statement addressed to Hon Kareem.

Dr Amao questioned why Hon Kareem, aspiring to represent Oyo North Senatorial District, would sponsor a similar bill instead of channeling efforts to other sectors and opportunities. “If Hon Kareem truly loves our federal constituency, he should support the efforts of other distinguish honourables rather than hijacking what was proposed for our constituency,” he remarked.

The APC member pointed out existing healthcare facilities in Saki Federal Constituency, including a Government-owned Specialist Hospital, a Baptist Hospital, and a Muslim Hospital, contrasting with the healthcare needs in Irepo/Olorunsogo/Oorelope Federal Constituency.

In response, Hon Kareem’s office described Dr Amao’s claim as “misguided” and lacking “basic legislative understanding.” The statement explained that unpassed bills expire at the end of a legislative session, making Hon Kareem’s sponsorship of the Federal Medical Centre (Amendment) Bill, 2025 (HB.2509) a “legitimate continuation of that developmental vision — not a duplication.”

Hon Kareem’s office emphasized the bill aims to ensure equitable access to tertiary healthcare for the entire Oke-Ogun Zone and complements efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery, aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“The National Assembly thrives on informed engagement and constructive contributions — not mischief or misinformation,” the statement from Hon Kareem’s office concluded.
