He Tattered My Licence’ ,Ibadan Clergy Sues Archbishop,Demands ₦20m for ‘False’ Theft Bust

The peace of the Anglican Diocese of Ibadan North has been shattered as a former Chaplain, Rev’d Oluwadamilola Ebenezer Kosemani, dragged the Archbishop of Ibadan Province, Most Rev’d Williams Oluwarotimi Aladekugbe, before an Oyo State High Court over allegations of rights abuse and “malicious” arrest.

In the suit (No. MI4/020/2020), Kosemani is seeking ₦20 million in damages, claiming his dignity was trampled upon when he was branded a thief and handed over to the police like a common criminal.

The embattled cleric alleged that the drama began on November 10, 2025, when the Archbishop accused him of theft. Kosemani claimed he was whisked away to the Akobo Police Station, where he was detained for five hours without any formal charges or a proper investigation.

In a chilling affidavit supporting his claims, Kosemani described his treatment as “unconstitutional, illegal, and a gross violation” of his rights. He stated that his former boss used his high-ranking influence to humiliate him before the police and the public.

The falling out between the two men of God reportedly turned physical and emotional. Kosemani alleged that after he was released from police custody, the Archbishop:
Publicly shredded his priestly licence.
Summarily dismissed him from his clerical duties.

Evicted him from his official residence.
The applicant further claimed the Archbishop made a vow to “ruin his life,” a threat that has now landed the senior cleric in a legal battle alongside the Nigeria Police Force.

Counsel to the applicant, Blessing Faremi, argued that the case is a classic example of “power-drunk” influence. Citing Supreme Court precedents, Faremi insisted that any citizen who makes a malicious report that leads to an unlawful arrest must pay the price in damages.

“Where a report is made and later found to be false, the maker is liable,” the counsel maintained.

Kosemani is now asking the court for a perpetual injunction to stop the Archbishop and the police from further harassing him. The Oyo State High Court has set the matter for hearing.
