As the holy month of Ramadan enters its second week, the Muslim Teachers’ Association of Nigeria (MUTAN), Saki West Local Government Branch, on Sunday hosted its 2026 Annual Ramadan Lecture,calling for a return to Islamic ethics to navigate the rising tide of global and local challenges.
The event,held at the Ansar-ud-Deen Society High School, Saki, centered on the theme: “Islamic Principles as a Sustainable Solution to Contemporary Global Challenges.” The gathering served as both a spiritual refresher and a strategic forum for addressing the socio-political hurdles facing the Oke-Ogun region and the nation at large.
Delivering the keynote address,Prof. Lukman Olateju Alawiye of the Department of Arabic & Islamic Studies, EAU, provided a searing analysis of modern instability. He noted that the world is currently grappling with a breakdown of order that has trickled down to the local level in the form of banditry, hooliganism, and brigandage.
”Islam stands firmly against insecurity,” Prof. Alawiye stated. “The faith provides a rigorous framework that guides against atrocities such as maiming, killing, abortion, and general immorality. If we return to these foundational principles, the shadow of banditry over our communities would thin out.”, he said.
Beyond security, the scholar delved into the “Blue and Green” economies, illustrating how Islamic principles of stewardship and equity can resolve modern economic distress.
Addressing the younger generation, Prof. Alawiye raised concerns over the “quick-win” syndrome fueling cybercrimes. He urged a shift in social values, noting that Islamic teachings offer a more sustainable path to prosperity than the volatile pursuit of digital fraud.
The lecture drew a significant assembly of religious, traditional, and political leadership. The Okere of Sakiland, Oba Khalid Olabisi, was represented as the Royal Father of the Day, while Alhaji (Engr.) Yunus Jolaya Gbadamosi, Chairman of the Saki Muslim Community, presided over the occasion as Chairman.
The event also saw strong representation from the political class, including:
Representative of Barr. Adebayo Lawal;
Representative of Senator Fatai Buhari; and Hon. Kareem Tajudeen Abisodun;Hon. Shittu Ibrahim and members of the Saki West Legislative Arm and a cross-section of Muslim Principals and Head Teachers from across the LGA.
In their separate remarks, Engr. Yunus Gbadamosi and Sheikh Abdwahab Olorunero echoed the need for teachers to remain the moral compass of the community, ensuring that the lessons of the lecture are translated into the classroom environment.
