Despite a surge in political hostilities and reported violence against its leadership, the Nyesom Wike-backed faction of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State has officially rescheduled its state convention for this Friday in the state capital.
The congress, originally slated for Tuesday, was pushed back following a series of turbulent events that have heightened tensions within the state’s political landscape.
The postponement comes in the wake of targeted attacks on key figures within the faction. Most notable was the violent assault on the residence of Hazeem Gbolarumi, the former Deputy Governor of Oyo State. Party sources indicate that the atmosphere in Ibadan has become increasingly volatile as rival interests within the PDP vie for structural control of the party in the state.
In a show of defiance, party chieftain Diran Odeyemi confirmed to 𝗜𝗧𝗩 𝗢𝗻𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 that, the group is moving forward with the Friday gathering. Addressing the security concerns, Odeyemi emphasized that the faction would not succumb to intimidation.
”The scheduled congress will hold in Ibadan,” Odeyemi stated firmly. “No amount of threats or violence can deter us from carrying out our party’s activities.”
