The Saki Parapo National Association, the umbrella body representing the interests of the Saki community, has expressed strong opposition to the alleged indiscriminate sale of landed properties in Saki town by the Saki West Local Government Council Chairman, Hon. Gbenga Akinola.
According to a press release issued by the Association’s Caretaker Committee, several properties have been sold or are being sold without proper consultation and due process. The affected properties include the Post Office, the land opposite Towobola house in Sanngo, the Ogbooro Ilorin garage opposite the Muslim hospital, the parcel of land opposite UBA Bank, the Saki West Local Government Guest House, and part of the land belonging to the Nigerian Television.

The controversy surrounding the alleged improper sale of public lands and assets in Saki, Oyo State, has taken a new turn as the Saki Parapo National Association (SPNA) has demanded transparency from the Saki West Local Government Council Chairman.
The SPNA, in a follow-up statement, insisted that the Council Chairman must provide detailed information on the sales, including the buyers, prices, and purposes of the transactions.
“We will not accept anything less than full transparency and accountability from the Council Chairman,” the SPNA’s Caretaker Committee stated. “The community has a right to know how its assets are being managed.”
The SPNA also alleged that the Council Chairman has been evasive and uncooperative in responding to their inquiries, fueling suspicions of wrongdoing.
The Council Chairman, however, maintains that the sales were conducted in accordance with established procedures and guidelines, and that the revenue generated will be used for the benefit of the community.
As the standoff between the SPNA and the Council Chairman continues, the community remains divided on the issue. Some residents have expressed support for the SPNA’s demands for transparency, while others have defended the Council Chairman’s actions.
The Oyo State Government has been called upon to intervene in the matter, to ensure that the interests of the community are protected.
The controversy has also raised questions about the management of public assets in local government areas, and the need for greater transparency and accountability.
The Association’s Caretaker Committee has urged the public to be aware of the situation and warned that they will not stand idly by while community assets, including heritage sites, are sold without proper consultation and due process.
