The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Abuja Operations Office (AOO), in collaboration with the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Special Needs and Equal Opportunities (OSSAP), has coordinated the distribution of relief materials to persons with disabilities in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory.
The distribution exercise, held on March 11, 2026, took place at the Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development. A five-member team from the Abuja Operations Office was deployed to coordinate the exercise following the approval of the Director-General of NEMA, Zubaida Umar, for the release of relief items to OSSAP for onward distribution.
Items distributed to the beneficiaries included 100 bags of 25kg rice, 100 cartons of spaghetti, 50 bags of 25kg maize, 10 cartons of tomato paste, 10 cartons of seasoning cubes, and 10 bags of iodised salt.
Speaking at the event, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Special Needs and Equal Opportunities, Muhammad Abba Isa, commended the Director-General of NEMA and the Federal Government for the intervention.
Also speaking, the President of the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD), Comrade Abdullahi Usman, expressed appreciation to NEMA and the Federal Government for the support. He noted that the association, which has millions of members across the country, would ensure the relief items reach those in need.
The distribution exercise was conducted successfully in an orderly manner, with security personnel on ground to maintain peace and ensure smooth coordination of the programme.
