‎No Consensus Candidate Yet, Barr Akeem Agbaje Campaign Clarifies, Labels Reports False

‎The Media Team of Barr Akeem Adedeji Agbaje, frontline Governorship Aspirant on the platform of All Progressives Congress Party in Oyo State has debunked a trending narrative regarding the purported emergence of a consensus candidate in Oyo State, describing the reports as fake.

‎This was conveyed through a statement from the media wing of the Aspirant’s Campaign Office made available to media men in Ibadan yesterday evening.

‎The Statement reads:

‎“We have observed with deep concern, several circulating reports and commentaries on social media platforms suggesting that certain individuals, including a serving Senator, have already emerged as “consensus candidates” of the All Progressives Congress Party- (APC) for the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Oyo State.

‎While political discussions and speculations are a normal part of democratic engagement, it is important to clearly state the facts in order to prevent misinformation and unnecessary tension among party members and supporters.

‎As of today, March 24, 2026, APC has not officially announced or concluded any process for the selection of its gubernatorial candidate in Oyo State. All individuals currently being mentioned in public discourse remain aspirants, and the party’s constitution provides a clear and established process for candidates’ emergence through duly conducted primaries or other constitutionally recognized methods.

‎It is therefore misleading and inaccurate to present any aspirant as having already been adopted as the APC consensus candidate in Oyo State when the party has not formally communicated such a decision through its recognized organs.

‎The APC remains a structured political party guided by rules, procedures, and the principles of internal democracy. The emergence of any candidate will be determined only upon the conclusion of the party’s official processes, in line with guidelines issued by the party’s national leadership and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

‎We urge all party members, supporters, and the general public to rely only on verified communications from appropriate party authorities and to disregard speculative reports capable of creating confusion or unnecessary division within our party.

‎All aspirants are encouraged to engage constructively, while stakeholders must continue to promote unity, discipline, and respect for due process as the party prepares for a transparent and credible primary elections.

‎Until the APC formally concludes its processes, no candidate should be regarded as having emerged. Any claim to the contrary should be treated as mere speculation and the camp it emanates from appropriately cautioned.

‎Furthermore, we advise purveyors of misinformation and overzealous political actors to refrain from actions or statements capable of overheating the polity. The Oyo State gubernatorial contest remains open and with level playing field for all aspirants willing to test their popularity through a fair and credible process.

‎Enough of using political positions, influence peddling to garner fraudulent popularity”, the statement concluded.
