The Oyo State Government has officially banned “sign out” celebrations by final-year students in both public and private schools across the state. This directive aims to maintain peace and order in schools, ensuring students’ safety and focus on academic pursuits.
According to the Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Hon. Olusegun Olayiwola, the ban is in response to increasing reports of misconducts, violence, and public disturbances associated with such events.
“We will not tolerate any form of violence or misconduct in our schools. We want our students to focus on their academic pursuits without distractions,” Hon. Olayiwola emphasized.
The Commissioner also reiterated the enforcement of the existing ban on mobile phone usage by students in schools, citing potential distractions, access to non-educational content, and cyberbullying.
“Mobile phones can be a significant distraction in the classroom, and we will not allow them to disrupt our students’ learning experience,” Hon. Olayiwola said.
The Commissioner commended principals for their dedication to shaping young minds and maintaining educational standards in the State. He stressed that schools must remain free from violence, bullying, and intimidation to protect adolescents during their formative years.
