Prominent Nigerians from various walks of life on Saturday gathered in Okaka town to commemorate the one-year remembrance of late Mrs. Esther Ajoke Odeyemi, describing her as a woman of rare virtues whose life left an enduring legacy.

The event, themed “A Year Remembrance of a Life of Purpose, Service and Legacy,” was organised under the auspices of former Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Hamid Gbadamosi. The Olokaka of Okaka land, Oba Abdul Azeez Olatunji Ayoola Ogelende IV, led other traditional rulers from the Oke-Ogun area to the gathering.
Clerics at the event included Revd. and Mrs. Phil-lola Adika, Revd. Dr. Femi Oyedokun, Revd. Dr. Oluwole Aderoju, Revd. Dr. Akintayo Suulola, and Revd. Dr. S. Ade Ajayi, alongside Captain Nurudeen (rtd) and the Chief Imam of Okaka land, Sheikh Busari Akanfe Olawale.
In his sermon, Revd. Dr. Akintayo Suulola urged attendees to live purposeful lives devoted to God, noting that the deceased continues to be remembered because of her impactful contributions to humanity. He stressed that life is transient and called on individuals to make meaningful impact while alive.
He described the late Mrs. Odeyemi as a loving mother, compassionate caregiver, and devoted Christian who contributed immensely to the growth of the church and the well-being of those around her.
Also speaking, Pastor Michael Borokini, brother of the deceased, said her death has created a vacuum difficult to fill, urging the family to remain united and uphold her values of love and selflessness.
In his remarks, the first son of the deceased, Engr. Babatunde Odeyemi, who travelled from Canada, described his mother as a woman of substance whose legacy continues to inspire the family. He revealed that several philanthropic initiatives have been undertaken in her memory in Okaka land.
The event featured musical and cultural displays, with students of Excel College, Okaka, and gospel artiste Femi Oorun, also known as Femi Solar, entertaining guests.
The ceremony concluded with prayers and reflections on a life remembered for service, humility, and unwavering commitment to humanity.
