The peace-loving people of Oke-Igboho Quarter, Igboho, have announced their withdrawal from the Igboho Day 2026 Celebration, citing persistent lack of inclusiveness, evident divisiveness, insincerity, absence of transparency, and erosion of trust exhibited by the event organizers.
In a statement made available to this newspaper, the community leaders and stakeholders expressed their disappointment and sadness, saying the noble objectives of the Igboho Day initiative have been “fundamentally compromised and overtaken by the very practices that have historically hindered unity and progress in our land.”
According to the statement, the planning and execution processes have been characterized by opaque decision-making, exclusion of key stakeholders, manipulation of contributions, and a breakdown of mutual trust. The community also expressed concern over the conduct of the Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, alleging alteration of goodwill messages and prioritization of sectional or personal interests.
“We state, with deep disappointment and sadness, that yet again, the long-cherished aspiration for a genuine rebirth and liberation of our beloved Igboho has been undermined,” the statement read.
The community has disassociated itself from the event and warned against the use of its name, identity, contributions, or goodwill messages to advance ideas or actions it does not support. The statement reaffirmed the community’s commitment to truth, justice, transparency, love, and equity, and its pursuit of an inclusive, united, and fair Igboho.
The notice of withdrawal has been formally documented for record purposes and potential administrative, legal, or judicial action.
