Okeogun Poly Cult Killing: Oyo Police Defend Hostel Raid, Say Operation Followed Cult Killing, Deny Property Damage

The Oyo State Police Command has defended its recent operation at The Oke-Ogun Polytechnic, Saki, stating that its officers acted professionally and within established guidelines.

The command was reacting to a viral video on X (formerly Twitter) which alleged that police operatives acted outside established procedures during a raid on the institution’s hostels.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, described the allegations as a deliberate distortion of facts aimed at misleading the public.

According to the police, the operation followed a violent cult clash on January 7, 2026, between the Eiye and Alora Confraternities within the school premises, which resulted in the death of one Adebiyi Ridwan.

The PPRO stated that one Olatunji David, an alleged member of the Eiye Confraternity, was arrested after conveying the deceased’s corpse to the hospital.

He said, “During interrogation, the suspect provided actionable intelligence which led operatives to certain hostels within the school environment. This operation was carried out in collaboration with the institution’s Chief Security Officer and with the full knowledge and consent of the school authority.”

Olayinka further clarified that the school management had earlier petitioned the Commissioner of Police to invite the Anti-Cultism Squad to prevent retaliatory attacks on campus.

The command also debunked allegations that its officers damaged properties during the exercise. It explained that the CSO personally requested students to open their doors, and no force was used.

Addressing the specific allegation of a broken ceiling, the police identified a student, Farouk Kareem, as being responsible for the damage.

“Investigation revealed that one Farouk Kareem was responsible for breaking the ceiling of his room to access another female student’s room in her absence. A video recording exists to substantiate this. The damage was not caused by police operatives,” the statement added.

The police confirmed that three suspects, identified as Sekoni Oluwafemi, Olaleye Azeez, and Fawaz Oladimeji, allegedly belonging to Aiye and Alora Confraternities, were arrested and have been charged in court.

The command warned against the spread of misinformation, stating that such acts compromise collective security. It urged anyone with verifiable claims of professional misconduct to come forward for a proper review.

“The command remains resolute in its commitment to professionalism, transparency, and the protection of lives and property,” the PPRO concluded.
