The Okere of Sakiland, Oba Dr. Sur Khalid Oyeniyi Olabisi Oyedepo III, has deposed Kilani Ajani Omofoyewa as the Baale of Ilua of Saki, Saki West LGA, Oyo State, effective immediately.
In a press statement, Oba Oyedepo III cited the Baale’s failure to stop harbouring illegal miners in his locality, posing a security risk to lives and causing economic losses to the Oyo State Government and Nigeria.
“The Baale’s deposition follows his failure to stop harbouring illegal miners in his locality, posing a security risk to lives and causing economic losses,” the statement read.
The Okere warned other traditional rulers against similar acts, emphasizing the need for cooperation to ensure peace and development in the region.
The Baale had been previously suspended by the State Government in February 2024, but was reinstated in December 2024 after pledging to desist from such activities.
