Okere Urges Army to Boost Security in Saki

The Nigerian Army’s 42nd Stakeholders Engagement held in Ibadan on August 15, 2025, brought together key stakeholders to discuss community-driven security solutions. The event, themed “Taking Nigerian Army to the Communities,” highlighted the importance of collaboration between the Army and local communities in promoting national security.

The Okere of Sakiland, Oba Dr. Sur Khalid Oyeniyi Olabisi Oyedepo III, commended the Nigerian Army for establishing the Command Science School in Saki community.

He urged the Army to consider establishing an additional base in Saki to strengthen existing security measures, given the community’s proximity to the Benin Republic Border.

FULL STATEMENT

“As I attended this significant event today, I was impressed by the Army’s commitment to fostering greater engagement and collaboration with various communities and stakeholders.The Army’s initiative to engage with communities is a step in the right direction towards enhancing security and promoting a sense of ownership among citizens.

In my remarks I commended the Nigerian Army for establishing the Command Science School in Saki community, which has produced excellent students. I also acknowledged the significant role played by the Army Barracks, 244 Recce Battalion in Saki, as a vital security apparatus. Furthermore, I urged the Army to consider establishing an additional base to strengthen existing security measures in the area, given Saki’s strategic location, nearly 94 kilometers from the Benin Republic Border”.

“Every citizen is a security officer, and we all have a role to play in promoting national security. This requires supporting security initiatives and influencing positively.

I commend the organizers and participants, particularly my colleagues who are royal fathers, for their contributions to this important discussion. The Nigerian Army’s effort to promote security is commendable, and by working together, we can create a safer and more secured nation”.
