The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has faulted All Progressive Congress (APC) National chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje’s boast that his party plans to take over all the states in the Southwest.
Its spokesman, Debo Ologunagba, spoke of the opposition party’s perception of Ganduje’s claim that the ruling party plans to capture Ondo State and the entire six states in the Southest geo-political zone.
Ologunagba said: “We wish to react to the reckless… statement by the chairman of the APC which was credited to him in Ondo State, wherein he said that the APC is set to capture Ondo and then use that as a gateway to capture Oyo state and Osun states.
“These are the sort of statements that we have been seeing over the months, talking about totalitarianism and one-party state in this country.
“If you look at the dictionary meaning of ‘capture’, and I just checked that it is to take by force or strategy, take prisoners; so, what he’s saying that he’s going to take the Southwest states and its people as prisoners of war – so, for us, it is troubling but this is actually a warning.
“The people of Southwest have a very rich history, a people that are very strong-willed, that are politically-educated and they know what they want; anybody who is a student of history will recognise clearly that the Southwest has always been a bastion for democratic right” he said.
