Oyo 2027: Olaniyan Bows Out of FCE Oyo Governing Council, Eyes Guber Seat

The Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo, H.E. Engr. Rauf Aderemi Olaniyan, has formally resigned from his position, effective Monday, citing compliance with provisions of the Electoral Act 2026 ahead of the 2027 general elections and formally declaring his intention to pursue political ambitions ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.

In a resignation letter addressed to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Olaniyan stated that his decision was necessitated by legal requirements mandating political appointees with electoral ambitions to step down before participating in party primaries.

The former council chairman expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing his tenure as both an honour and a privilege. He also acknowledged the cooperation of council members and the management of the institution during his time in office.

As part of the transition process, Olaniyan recommended Barrister (Mrs.) Inime Aguma as Acting Chairman of the Governing Council. He cited her competence, dedication, and familiarity with the institution’s operations as key reasons for the endorsement.

The resignation letter has been officially received and documented, bearing a “RECEIVED” stamp from the Office of the Registrar of the college, dated March 23, 2026, confirming its formal submission.

Observers note that the development carries political significance, particularly within Oyo State, as it signals early positioning ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle. Analysts expect further resignations from political office holders in the coming months as compliance with electoral regulations intensifies.

The Federal Government is yet to make an official announcement regarding the acceptance of the resignation or the appointment of an acting chairman.
