Oyo 2027: Youth Used,Not Empowered”-APC Gover Aspirant,Oladele Resigns,Cites Exclusion Politics

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Oyo State, Chief Saheed Oladele, has formally resigned his membership of the party, citing concerns over the marginalisation of young people in its decision-making process.

In a resignation letter dated April 7, 2026, and addressed to the Chairman of Ward 4 in Ibadan North Local Government Area, Oladele said his decision followed “recent developments and party positions” which, according to him, indicate that the party in the state is not yet ready to accord youths meaningful roles in leadership.

Oladele, who previously aspired to contest the governorship under the party’s platform, described his time in the APC as one marked by “commitment, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication.” He noted that his political journey within the party was driven not only by personal ambition but also by efforts to promote unity and strengthen internal structures across stakeholder groups.

“As a gubernatorial aspirant, I worked tirelessly… fostering unity, strengthening structures, and building bridges across different interests within our great party,” he stated in the letter.

The former party member also highlighted his involvement in youth advocacy, particularly his alignment with the Youth O’ Clock initiative, which campaigns for greater inclusion of young people in governance. He said he had consistently sought to bridge the gap between older and younger generations within the political space.

However, he expressed disappointment that youths were, in his view, being engaged “as instruments without corresponding influence,” a stance he said contradicts his vision for inclusive governance and sustainable development.

While expressing gratitude to party leaders and associates for the opportunities and relationships built over the years, Oladele maintained that his commitment to the welfare of the people must take precedence over party loyalty.

“I remain committed, now as always, to the progress, unity, and development of Oyo State and our nation at large,” he said.

His resignation comes amid ongoing political realignments within the APC in Oyo State, a development observers say could have implications for the party’s internal dynamics ahead of future electoral contests.
