Oyo Assembly suspends Saki East Chairman over alleged gross misconduct

In a dramatic move, the Oyo State House of Assembly has suspended the Executive Chairman of Saki East Local Government Area, Hon. Emmanuel Adedokun, over allegations of gross misconduct.

The suspension was announced by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Muhammed Fadeyi, during Tuesday’s plenary sitting, amidst allegations that Adedokun had flagrantly disobeyed Governor Seyi Makinde’s directives since assuming office.

The House directed Adedokun to step aside until further notice, paving the way for the vice chairman, Hon. Razaq Adeyemi, to take over the administration of the local government in an acting capacity.

The suspension follows a petition brought before the House by eleven concerned members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Saki East Local Government, who accused Adedokun of gross misconduct.

The House has also directed the Local government secretary to act as the vice chairman pending the conclusion of the investigation by the House committee on local government.

Reaction

The suspension has sparked mixed reactions from stakeholders, with some hailing the move as a bold step towards accountability, while others have expressed concerns over the timing and motivations behind the decision.

What’s Next?

As the investigation unfolds, all eyes will be on the House committee on local government to uncover the facts behind the allegations and determine the fate of Hon. Adedokun.
