Oyo Police Recover 40 Bags Of Explosives En Route To Kwara, Arrest Truck Driver In Saki

Police operatives in Oyo State have recovered 40 bags of concealed explosives and arrested a truck driver following an intelligence-led operation at the Sango area of Saki.

Security sources disclosed that the interception took place on January 24 at about 11:10 p.m., when a DAF truck with registration number Ogun SGM 765 XB was stopped by police operatives, according to counter-analyst and security expert Zagazola Makama.

The vehicle was being driven by Mutairu Yusuf, a 30-year-old man from Atiru Compound, Chikanda, Kwara State.

During a search of the truck, officers discovered the explosives hidden inside the vehicle. The suspect reportedly told investigators that the consignment was loaded in Ibadan and was being transported to Chikanda in Kwara State.

“The explosives were discovered hidden in the vehicle, which the driver said had been loaded in Ibadan and was intended for delivery to Chikanda,” the report said.

Following the discovery, a joint investigation involving the police Monitoring Unit and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal–Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) team was launched to determine the source, destination, and intended use of the explosives.

Chikanda is a border town in the Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State, Nigeria, serving as a critical checkpoint and trade route connecting Nigeria to the Republic of Benin.

Located in the northern part of the state, it is known for cross-border commerce.
