Oyo:PDP Leaders Warn Against Inter Local Governments ‘Political Gang-Up’ Over Federal Constituency Candidacy

Stakeholders and leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Saki East LGA, have distanced themselves from what they described as an unauthorized political meeting allegedly held to select candidates within the federal constituency, warning that such actions could undermine party unity ahead of future elections.

The position was contained in an official communiqué issued at the end of a stakeholders and Local Government Executive Committee meeting held in Ago-Amodu on Thursday 26th March, 2026.

According to the communiqué, the party leaders condemned the reported meeting involving some PDP members in Saki East and ATISBO LGAs, which allegedly excluded Saki West LGA, describing the development as divisive and contrary to the party’s long-standing tradition of inclusiveness.

“The stakeholders unequivocally dissociate themselves from the purported meeting organised for candidates’ selection involving Atisbo Local Government without the inclusion of Saki West Local Government, describing the arrangement as divisive, unacceptable, and contrary to the spirit of fairness, inclusiveness, and established party tradition,” the communiqué stated.

The meeting further warned that, unilateral actions and political alignments formed outside established party structures could weaken cohesion within the party and affect its electoral prospects.

“The meeting strongly condemns such unilateral actions and considers the alliance an unhealthy political gang-up capable of jeopardising party unity and undermining the electoral strength and collective interest of the Peoples Democratic Party within the federal constituency,” the statement added.

Stakeholders stressed that all political processes must be guided by due consultation and recognized party mechanisms, cautioning individuals and groups against taking decisions without broad-based agreement.

“Party decisions must emanate from collective consultation and established party structures, and no individual or group has the mandate to act outside of duly recognised party consensus,” the communiqué emphasized.

To address the growing concerns, the PDP leadership in Saki East Local Government Area disclosed plans to convene a broader stakeholders’ meeting involving all three local government areas in the constituency to ensure transparency and rebuild trust among party members.

“Arrangements are already in progress to convene a comprehensive stakeholders’ meeting involving the three Local Governments at a mutually agreed time and venue to foster unity, strengthen coordination, and ensure a transparent and inclusive political process,” the statement noted.

The meeting reaffirmed its commitment to party discipline and unity, urging members to remain calm and focused on the collective goal of strengthening the party ahead of upcoming political engagements in Oyo State.

The communiqué was signed by the PDP Chairman in Saki East Local Government, Alhaji Muda Balogun, who commended party faithful for their loyalty and called for sustained cooperation among stakeholders.
