The Olubadan of Ibadanland and Chairman of the Oyo State Council of Obas, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, has called on eligible indigenes to take advantage of the ongoing Police Constable recruitment exercise and join the Nigeria Police Force.
The monarch made the appeal on Tuesday while receiving the Chairman of All Police Matters and South West representative in the Police Service Commission, retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Tunde Lakanu.
Oba Ladoja emphasised the critical role of law enforcement agents in society, noting that beyond apprehending offenders, the police are responsible for maintaining law and order.
He assured that efforts would be made to mobilise participation across the state, stating that although his jurisdiction covers 11 local government areas, he would liaise with members of the State Council of Obas and Chiefs to sensitise communities in all zones.
The monarch also pledged the support of the Olubadan Advisory Council, line chiefs, Baales, Mogajis and Iyalodes in spreading awareness about the exercise.
He further highlighted the importance of the media, urging print, electronic and social media platforms to play an active role in promoting the recruitment drive.
Earlier, Lakanu informed the traditional ruler and members of the Olubadan Advisory Council that the recruitment exercise aims to enlist 50,000 police constables nationwide. He, however, expressed concern over the low turnout of applicants from the South West, urging greater participation from the region.
He solicited the support of Olubadan and other royal fathers in publicising the programme at the grassroots level.
Lakanu, who was accompanied by the State Police Commissioner, CP Femi Haruna, AIGs and many seasoned police officers informed the royal fathers about the imminence of State Police in Nigeria, adding the society stands to benefit more, once it comes on stream.
The members of the Olubadan Advisory Council present at the occasion are Otun Balogun, Oba Kola Adegbola, Osi Olubadan, Oba Abiodun Kola-Daisi, Asipa Olubadan, Oba Hamidu Ajibade, Ekerin Olubadan, Oba Adebayo Akande, Are Ago Balogun, Rear Admiral Adetokunbo Akintola (rtd) and Ajiroba, Prof Soji Adejumo were also present with top palace staff.
