Reno Omokri, a former aide to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan, has officially left the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and aligned himself with the All Progressives Congress (APC), pledging his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections.
Omokri, known for his outspoken criticism of President Tinubu in the past, had been a steadfast member of the PDP for over two decades. As recently as 2022, Omokri publicly stated that he would rather leave politics than betray the party he had served for 24 years.
His shift in allegiance has sent ripples through Nigeria’s political landscape.
In a recent declaration, Omokri emphasized that if former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, and Tinubu all appear on the 2027 ballot, he would work “vehemently” for Tinubu’s re-election, signaling a deep change in his political perspective.
