Saki’s Future Nurses: 131 Students Matriculate at BMC’s College

The College of Nursing Sciences at Baptist Medical Centre (BMC) in Saki, Oyo State, recently held its maiden matriculation ceremony for the 2024/2025 academic session. The ceremony, which took place on Wednesday, May 7th, 2024, welcomed 131 fresh students to the esteemed institution.

The matriculation ceremony which was a grand affair, began with a vibrant procession, followed by the singing of the national anthem and the school’s anthem, filling the atmosphere with patriotism and unity.

In her matriculation address,Provost (Dns.)E.T. Olaogun charged the students to be good ambassadors of the citadel of learning, remain dedicated and committed to their academic journey. She also emphasized the college’s zero-tolerance policy for sharp practices in admission.

Speaking in an interview, Olaogun urged parents to be actively involved in their children’s lives, serving as watchdogs to ensure their safety, well-being, and educational progress. She also called on the government to partner with parents and communities to provide necessary support and resources.

“Parents are urged to be vigilant watchdogs over their children, ensuring their safety, well-being, and educational progress. Meanwhile, the government is encouraged to be a partner in progress, providing necessary support and resources to facilitate the growth and development of young minds”, she said .

Speaking on the development, Chief Medical Director of Baptist Medical Centre, Saki, Prince Dr. O.S. Adekanye, charged nursing students to maximize their time, acquire new skills, and maintain high moral discipline to become valuable professionals. While expressing gratitude to Oyo State Government for supporting education, and appreciated the Visitor of the College and President of the Nigerian Baptist Convention for their leadership and congratulated the matriculants and parents.

“I warmly congratulate you matriculating students and parents on this noble occasion.We are able to secure full accreditation and the status of a College of Nursing Sciences with three departments of Nursing, Midwifery and Public Health Nursing – Glory be to God. I wish to appreciate the Oyo State Government, under the able leadership of His Excellency Engr. Seyi Makinde for his interest and efforts towards the Educational development of the State, most especially Medical and Health Education.

Our Government provides the enabling environment under which public and private educational institutions grow hitches free, Sir we thank you so much. Matriculating Students, always keep your eye and mind on what matters and make effective decision that solve problems. Maximize your time and do not take this opportunity for granted, you must always be ready for accomplishment.

“There is a compelling reason for this matriculation today and that is to be qualified as a professional. Be inclined to learning, grow new skill, shine in the Nursing knowledge,improve daily, and become so sharp, so valuable and resourcefulHere our academic and moral bars are so high as we do not settle for what goes on in town with youngsters, high level of moral discipline by example; which reflexives in intensive theoretical / practical coaching, teaching, and learning in line with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria curriculum and postings within the premises and district postings are what hold up our students and distinguish them amongst equals”, he stated.

The event featured goodwill messages from JAMB officials, further solidifying the college’s commitment to excellence. As the students embark on this noble journey, they are poised to become future leaders in the nursing profession.

The College of Nursing Sciences at BMC, Saki has a rich history dating back to 1980 and has continued to evolve, providing quality education and training to its students.
