The Oyo State House of Assembly has issued a strong rebuttal to Hon. Ibrahim Shittu’s claims about the N300 billion loan request made by Governor Seyi Makinde.
The Assembly clarified that the loan includes N149 billion to refinance an existing loan facility with United Bank for Africa (UBA) and N151 billion for new infrastructure and contractors’ financing. Hon. Shittu allegedly failed to acknowledge this distinction.
The Assembly claims all members were notified about the emergency plenary session, supported by a screenshot of the message from the Majority Leader.
The Assembly criticized Hon. Shittu’s poor attendance record, citing a 20% attendance rate at plenary sessions, making him the least active member of the 10th Assembly. They also noted his absence from critical legislative sittings, oversight visits, and committee assignments.
The House urged the public to disregard Hon. Shittu’s allegations, describing them as politically motivated and an attempt to cover his ineffectiveness as a lawmaker. They reiterated their commitment to accountability, transparency, and legislative excellence.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) accused the Assembly of being “financially induced” to approve Governor Makinde’s loan requests, questioning the rising debt profile under his administration.
