Honourable members representing constituencies within Oyo Federal Constituency at the Oyo State House of Assembly have engaged the Oyo State Police Command over the recent incident involving personnel of the Jobele Divisional Police Headquarters in Oyo town.
The lawmakers, Hon. Gbenga Oyekola (Atiba State Constituency), Hon. Olorunpoto Cephas Rahaman (Oyo East/Oyo West State Constituency), and Hon. Prince Oladeji Oparinde (Afijio State Constituency), participated in a high-level stakeholders’ meeting convened at the Police Command Headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan.
The meeting, presided over by the Commissioner of Police, CP Femi Haruna, brought together community representatives including youth leaders, traditional representatives, and student union leaders to discuss concerns arising from the incident.
During the engagement, stakeholders raised issues over the alleged unprofessional conduct of some officers attached to the Jobele Divisional Police Headquarters. In response, the Commissioner of Police assured participants that immediate steps had been taken to address the situation, including issuing a query to the Divisional Police Officer and detaining the officers involved pending the outcome of an ongoing investigation.
The Command also disclosed that the matter has been referred to the Nigeria Police Force X-Squad for further investigation, a move aimed at ensuring professionalism, accountability, and public confidence in the process. In addition, additional tactical teams have been deployed to strengthen security presence in Oyo town and surrounding communities.
The lawmakers, in their remarks, reaffirmed their commitment to protecting the rights, dignity, and safety of their constituents. They urged the Police Command to ensure a thorough, transparent, and impartial investigation, stressing that anyone found culpable should be dealt with in accordance with the law.
They also appealed to residents of Oyo town and neighbouring communities to remain calm, law-abiding, and cooperative with security agencies as efforts continue to maintain peace and public safety.
The legislators assured constituents that they would continue to engage relevant authorities and stakeholders to ensure justice is served and to prevent a recurrence of similar incidents.
