It’s a spectacular show of honor and opulence at the installation ceremony of Adeniyi Adekola who bagged a chieftaincy title as the Otunba Mayegun of Ofikiland,showcasing part of the rich cultural heritage of the community. The event was a grand celebration of tradition, pageantry, and dignity.
The newly installed Otunba Mayegun on Saturday, 28th of December,2024 celebrated his coronation (Iwuye) by paying homage visit to Oloto of Ofikiland, Oba Sunday Oyedokun Tella.
The visit which was with pomp is a mandatory traditional engagement which form part of the rites associated with the processes that conclude all activities in respect of the installation at the monarch’s Palace.
The ceremony took place in a beautifully decorated arena, filled with dignitaries, traditional leaders, and community members. The atmosphere was electric, with a sense of excitement and anticipation filling the air.
The traditional ruler, resplendent in traditional regalia, presided over the ceremony with dignity and poise. Adekola, equally impressive in traditional attire, was ushered into the arena with great fanfare, accompanied by traditional drummers and dancers.
The installation ceremony itself was a masterclass in tradition and culture. The traditional ruler presented the Adekola with a series of symbolic objects, each representing a different aspect of the chieftaincy title. He, in turn, pledged to uphold the values and traditions of the community.
The ceremony was followed by a grand reception, featuring traditional music, dance, and cuisine. Guests were treated to a sumptuous feast, with a wide range of delicacies on offer.

Speaking with newsmen, Adeniyi Adekola, appreciated the monarch for the honour done him, promising that the award of chieftaincy title will further spur him to do more for the benefit of mankind.
He ,however, urged the sons and daughters of the kingdom to join hands with the king in the overall interests of the area.
On his parts, Ahmed Raji ,SAN represented by Saheed Alaran advised the recipient of the prestigious title to treasure the honor and not take it for granted, emphasized the importance of humility and responsibility that comes with the title.
“You have been chosen for this honor because of your hard work and dedication to our community,” “But with this title comes great responsibility. You must continue to serve the community with integrity, humility, and compassion.”
Alaran reminded him that, the chieftaincy title is not just a symbol of prestige, but also a call to service. He urged the recipient to use his new status to promote the welfare of the community.
The ceremony was attended by dignitaries, traditional leaders, and community members including Bashir Olumuyiwa Alade, Col. Gbenga Adegbola , Kareem Tajudeen Abisodun, Busari Yakub Donbay ,Tosin Kolade Awodi-Oke, Saheed Sokedile , Soji Aderoju among others.
