Wike Defends PDP Convention, Accuses Rivals Of Ignoring Court Rulings And Double-Speak

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has defended the legitimacy of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national convention, accusing some party leaders of ignoring court directives and later seeking validation of the same process.

Wike said a committee had been established by the party to manage the transition toward the convention, but its recommendations were allegedly rejected by some stakeholders.

“A committee was set up headed by an elder statesman to guide the party and avoid division,” he said.

“But they refused the advice, went ahead with their own convention, and later returned to court seeking validation.”

He further claimed that court rulings had already restrained aspects of the convention before it was held.

“Two separate judgments had said the convention should not hold, yet they proceeded,” he said.

Wike also accused rival factions of inconsistency and shifting positions depending on political advantage.

“One minute you say one thing, the next minute you say another. How do people trust that?” he asked.

He maintained that political actors must be consistent to maintain public trust, insisting that internal disputes should not be misrepresented.
