Strike: LAUTECH Teaching Hospital Workers Reach Truce With Makinde

Staff of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, have called off their industrial action following a meeting with Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde.

The workers suspended the strike after the governor pledged to address their grievances and resolve the issues that prompted the industrial action.

The intervention is expected to restore industrial harmony at the teaching hospital and facilitate the resumption of normal operations.

Although details of the resolutions reached at the meeting were not immediately available, the governor’s assurance signals a move towards resolving the dispute between the workers and the relevant authorities.

Recall that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), LAUTECH branch, had issued a 14-day ultimatum to the university management over the non-implementation of the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU agreement.

The union announced the ultimatum in a statement issued on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, and signed by its Chairperson, Prof. Olujimi Dada, and Secretary, Dr ‘Soji Arinola.

ASUU said it had obtained approval from its National Executive Council (NEC) to issue the ultimatum, warning that its members would embark on a full-scale strike if the agreement was not fully implemented within the stipulated period.

The union explained that the decision followed several unsuccessful attempts to resolve the matter through engagements with the university management, governing council and the Oyo State Government.

It also recalled that its congress, at a meeting held on July 22, 2026, had resolved to pursue the full implementation of the agreement in line with the directives of the union’s national leadership.

According to the union, 10 months after the agreement was signed, some of its provisions remained unimplemented at the institution, despite repeated efforts to secure a resolution through dialogue.

ASUU described the 14-day ultimatum as a final opportunity for the university management to address its demands and avert an industrial crisis.
