Iseyin Set for New University as Makinde Approves LAUTECH Campus Autonomy

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has approved the autonomy of the Iseyin Campus of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), paving the way for its transformation into a full-fledged institution.

Governor Makinde made the declaration while responding to a request by stakeholders in Iseyin at the commissioning of a school building at LA Primary School, Oke-Esa, Iseyin.

He assured the people that his administration would formalise the process by submitting the necessary applications to the National Universities Commission (NUC) and developing a sustainable operational plan for the institution.

Earlier, the donor of the school building, Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Ahmed Raji, had appealed to the governor to upgrade the LAUTECH campus in Iseyin into an independent university specialising in agriculture, renewable energy and Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

Raji explained that the donation was prompted by the deteriorating condition of facilities at the school and the need to provide pupils with a conducive learning environment.

He added that the building was also intended to immortalise one of Iseyin’s illustrious sons, Alhaji Omosalewa Owonikoko, after whom the edifice was named.

Other community leaders and education stakeholders commended Governor Makinde and the project donor, pledging to ensure that the facility was put to proper educational use and contributed to the development of future generations.
