The Saki West LG of Oyo State has given members of the Baale Iya Chieftaincy family 14 days to nominate and select a suitable candidate to fill the vacant stool of the Baale of Saki Iya.

The directive was contained in a public notice dated October 19, 2026, with reference number SWLG/2273/55, issued pursuant to Section 15 (1)(a) and Section 15 (2)(a)(i), (ii) and (iii) of the Chiefs Law of Oyo State, 2000.

According to the notice, members of the Baale Iya Chieftaincy family are required to nominate and select a suitable candidate through their family head and forward the nominee’s name to the Executive Chairman of Saki West Local Government.

The council stipulated that the process must be completed within 14 days of the publication of the notice, setting November 2, 2026, as the deadline for the submission.

It stated that the name of the selected candidate would subsequently be forwarded to the Oyo State Government for consideration and approval.

The notice further explained that, since the Baale Iya Chieftaincy stool has no registered or valid declaration, the nomination and selection process would be conducted in accordance with native customary law, as provided under Section 34 (1)(a) of the Chiefs Law of Oyo State, 2000.

The public notice was signed by Abdul-Azeez A.I., Director of Administration and General Services, on behalf of the Executive Chairman of Saki West Local Government.

The directive marks the commencement of the formal process to fill the vacant traditional stool, with members of the recognised chieftaincy family expected to comply with the stipulated procedure and deadline.

The stool became vacant following the death of the late Baale Iya of Saki, Alhaji Raheem Aiki Boorepo, popularly known as Chief Boorepo.

With the council’s notice now issued, attention is expected to shift to the Baale Iya Chieftaincy family as it begins the process of nominating a successor within the prescribed period.
