The Senator Sharafadeen Alli Campaign Organisation (SSACO) has condemned Governor Seyi Makinde’s directive to local governments in Oyo State to fund mobilization of Allied People’s Movement (APM) members to Akure, Ondo State for his zonal presidential campaign rally.
This came only days after the governor budgeted N4.2 billion for local government election of which he has compelled the 33 local government councils to provide 60 per cent amounting to N2.5 billion.
The SSACO, in a statement by its director of media and publicity Bisi Oladele, said Governor Makinde is clearly determined to financially ground local governments in the state in his pursuit of a failed presidential ambition and an attempt to impose his stooge Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi on the people of Oyo State for his unconstitutional third term agenda.
“The SSACO is fully aware of a directive to the 33 local governments councils in Oyo State to fund mobilization of party members to Akure, Ondo State for the Seyi Makinde presidential zonal campaign rally. This shocking news is another confirmation of how Governor Makinde’s administration has been misapplying local government funds in the last seven years, thereby denying people at the grassroots the deserved development.
“This new, anti-development directive came only days after the same government compelled local government councils to cough out 60 per cent of the N4.2 billion budgeted for local government election scheduled for December 29, 2026. This is an election that is already a subject of litigation. We hope that Governor Makinde will follow the court case through, and observe the rule of law.
“The latest directive is also a confirmation of why Governor Makinde does not want financial autonomy for local governments. He has never hidden his dislike for local government autonomy because the current arrangement favours his appetite for absolute control of local governments at the expense of grassroots development.
“While urging local government chairmen to reject the evil directive, the SSACO advises Governor Makinde to stop this brazen rape of local governments in Oyo State, and a free feasting on our common patrimony for self aggrandisement. Rural roads, bridges, schools and hospitals are crying for help while this misapplication of local government funds is being undertaken with glee.
“As his administration winds down gradually, the SSACO wishes to advise Governor Makinde to spare a thought for posterity which judges everyone who enjoys leadership opportunity and accompanying privileges.
“The SSACO urges the good people of Oyo State to reject Makinde and his stooge Hon. Adekanmbi in the forthcoming general elections. Their votes for Senator Sharafadeen Alli will pave way for local government autonomy from May 29, 2027 which will fast-track grassroots development across Oyo State. The Oyo AHEAD agenda is a sure path to attaining our development goals as a state.” The statement read.
