Stakeholders of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Saki ,have congratulated Sarafadeen Lateef Onijo (Esq.) on his emergence as the party’s consensus candidate for the Saki West LG chairmanship election.
The congratulatory message, signed by Hon. Adekunle Tunji Rafiu, JP, on behalf of the stakeholders in Saki, Ibadan and the diaspora, described the development as a significant milestone that should usher in a new era of reconciliation, unity and collective political mobilisation within the party.
The stakeholders commended the 13 aspirants who participated in the selection process for what they described as their courage, commitment and sacrifices, urging all contestants and their supporters to put the outcome behind them and rally around the party’s chosen candidate.
They also expressed appreciation to the Grand Chief Imam of Saki, the League of Imams and Alfas, Christian and traditional religious communities, the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, the Okere-in-Council and non-indigenous residents for their contributions towards peace and unity in Saki West.
The statement equally acknowledged the role of Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, whom the stakeholders said had listened to “the voices of reason” in arriving at what they described as a decision in the interest of peace, unity and development.
According to the stakeholders, the emergence of Onijo should not be interpreted as a victory for one individual over others, stressing that “there is no victor and no vanquished” in the process.
They called on aggrieved aspirants and party members to bury their differences, forgive one another and redirect their energies towards strengthening the APM ahead of the local government election and the 2027 general elections.
The stakeholders further urged party members to maintain solidarity with all APM candidates across elective positions, arguing that the party’s electoral strength would depend largely on unity, discipline and collective commitment.
“Let us turn our energy from rivalry to reconciliation, from division to unity, and from individual interests to the collective success of our party,” the statement said.
The stakeholders concluded by congratulating Onijo once again, expressing optimism that his emergence would herald “a new chapter of peace, unity, inclusion and progress” in Saki West LGA
