Group Denies Impeachment Plot Allegation Against Ajimobi, Issues Warning Over “False Narrative”

Supporters of former Oyo State First Lady Florence Ajimobi have rejected allegations linking her to a purported plan to impeach Governor Seyi Makinde, describing the claim as “reckless” and “deliberately fabricated.”

In a statement released on Wednesday, Prince John Aremu, a former youth leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, said the accusation was entirely unfounded and should be disregarded.

“We state categorically, unequivocally, and without any reservation that Her Excellency has no hand whatsoever—directly or indirectly—in any such attempt,” Aremu said. “This allegation is false, malicious, and should be treated with the contempt it deserves.”

He described Ajimobi as “a woman of proven virtue” and “a respected matriarch,” adding that “it is both insulting and disgraceful for anyone to associate her name with such a dishonourable and destabilising agenda.”

The statement also raised concerns about the continued spread of the allegation, directly calling out Gbenga Oyetola and urging him to refrain from circulating what it termed misinformation.

“We are deeply concerned by the continuous spread of this dangerous falsehood and hereby issue a strong warning to Gbenga Oyetola to immediately desist from this act of promoting misinformation,” Aremu said. He further described the alleged actions as being carried out “under the guise of demonstrating questionable or fake loyalty to the Governor.”

According to the group, “this brand of politics built on lies, manipulation, and calculated attempts to heat up the polity has no place in Oyo State,” warning that such actions pose “a direct threat to the peace and stability that the people currently enjoy.”

Aremu added that “Oyo State is not a fertile ground for agents of confusion and political opportunists,” stressing that “any individual or group attempting to manufacture crisis through false narratives will be resisted by the collective will of the people.”

He urged members of the public to ignore the allegation and focus on unity and development. “We urge the public to disregard this baseless propaganda and remain focused on the shared goal of sustaining peace, promoting unity, and advancing development across the state,” he said.
