A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Oyo State, Hon. Hussaini Yusuf Ijabah, has appealed to party leaders and stakeholders in Oyo North Senatorial District to support what he described as a “historic correction of political imbalance” by zoning the 2027 senatorial ticket to the Oorelope/Irepo/Olorunsogo Federal Constituency.
In an open letter addressed to party elders, stakeholders, and delegates and made available to 𝗜𝗧𝗩 𝗢𝗻𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 , Ijabah said his aspiration was driven not by personal ambition but by what he termed the need for “equity, justice, inclusiveness, and fairness” within the senatorial district.
He noted that since Nigeria’s return to democratic rule in 1999, the constituency had yet to produce a senator representing Oyo North at the National Assembly.
“For over twenty-eight years, our people have continued to support the party and contribute immensely to its victories at various levels without having the opportunity to occupy the senatorial seat,” he stated.
According to him, the continued exclusion of the constituency has created “a clear imbalance in representation” that requires urgent political reflection and correction.
Ijabah argued that addressing the issue would strengthen unity within the APC and deepen trust among party members across the district. “Equity remains one of the strongest foundations for sustainable political cooperation and peaceful coexistence,” he said.
He added that zoning the ticket to the constituency would demonstrate the party’s commitment to inclusiveness. “Giving the Oorelope/Irepo/Olorunsogo Federal Constituency the opportunity to produce the next Senator for Oyo North in 2027 will not only correct a longstanding political imbalance but will further strengthen the confidence of our people in the APC,”
The aspirant maintained that the constituency has capable individuals who can effectively represent the district at the National Assembly, insisting that his aspiration reflects “a collective desire of our people to finally have a sense of belonging and participation at the highest legislative level.”
He also outlined what he described as the strategic benefits of his emergence, including improved grassroots mobilization and electoral strength for the party.
“My emergence as the APC candidate will offer several strategic advantages, including the promotion of equity and justice, strengthening party unity, and enhancing grassroots acceptance and mobilization,” he said.
Ijabah further pledged loyalty to the party’s leadership, noting that he would continue to engage stakeholders with “maturity, respect, and issue-based engagement.”
“I remain fully committed to the unity, progress, and success of our great party,” he said, while urging leaders to “support this noble course of equity and justice” ahead of the 2027 elections.
He concluded by expressing optimism that such a decision would “deepen inclusiveness, strengthen unity, and secure greater victory for the APC in Oyo North Senatorial District.”
