A road accident involving a sports car caused significant property damage but no loss of life on Saturday evening in Saki, Oyo State.
The incident occurred on May 2, 2026, at Oke-Moibi along the Challenge area of the town. According to eyewitness accounts, the vehicle, reportedly owned by a student of Michael Adeniyi Koleosho Polytechnic, suffered a brake failure while descending from the Challenge axis toward a nearby junction.
The driver lost control of the car, which veered off the road and crashed into roadside stalls, destroying three makeshift shops commonly referred to as “chaotch” stalls. The vehicle itself was also badly damaged in the impact.
Residents and bystanders expressed relief that no lives were lost in the crash. “We are grateful to God that nobody was killed,” one eyewitness said, while urging motorists to ensure regular maintenance and proper checks of their vehicles to prevent similar incidents.
𝗜𝗧𝗩 𝗢𝗻𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 correspondent who visited the scene confirmed that no casualties were recorded. The driver was reportedly whisked away from the area by concerned individuals to prevent possible mob action from aggrieved youths and shop owners whose properties were damaged.
An excavator was later deployed to convey the damaged vehicle from the scene, while debris from the destroyed stalls yet to be cleared.
However, residents have raised concerns about the safety of the Oke-Moibi stretch, describing it as increasingly hazardous. They noted that a similar accident occurred at the same location a few years ago, resulting in two fatalities.
Community members also criticized the misuse of the road, pointing out that despite the availability of alternative routes, motorists frequently use the same narrow road for both entry and exit, increasing the risk of accidents.
They called on security agencies and relevant authorities to enforce traffic regulations and improve road safety measures to protect lives and property in the area.
