Strong indications have emerged that Mrs. Hannah Olawunmi Ogunesan is set to become the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial candidate for Oyo North Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The development is said to be linked to the recent endorsement of APC candidates in Oyo State by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a move that has reportedly ended weeks of speculation over the party’s ticket for various elective positions in the state.
According to party sources, President Tinubu formally endorsed Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Ali as the APC governorship candidate for Oyo State, alongside the party’s senatorial candidates across the three senatorial districts. Those endorsed include Hon. Remi Oseni for Oyo South, Senator Yunus Akintunde for Oyo Central, and Mrs. Hannah Ogunesan for Oyo North.
The endorsement was reportedly conveyed during a high-level meeting attended by prominent APC leaders and stakeholders in Oyo State. Among those present were former Senator Ayo Adeseun, Alhaji Fatai Ibikunle, Hon. Soji Adedeji, the Oyo State APC Chairman, Alhaji Olayide Moshood Abas Adeyemo, and other party chieftains.
Reacting to the development, Senator Yunus Akintunde expressed appreciation to the President for the confidence reposed in the candidates and the leadership of the party in the state.
“I am deeply honoured to have received the endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu alongside our party’s distinguished candidates in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 general elections,” he said.
Akintunde noted that the endorsement would further strengthen the APC’s resolve to reclaim power in Oyo State and secure victory in the forthcoming elections.
He added that the President’s support was both encouraging and inspiring, pledging to continue working with party leaders, members and stakeholders to advance the ideals of the APC.
Political observers believe the endorsement of Mrs. Ogunesan, a respected grassroots politician and party stalwart, could significantly boost the APC’s chances in Oyo North, a district considered strategic in the state’s political calculations.
With the party gradually setting its structures in place ahead of the 2027 polls, the latest development is expected to shape political alignments and campaign activities across Oyo State in the coming months.
