The Oyo State APC Central Progressives Conference, comprising party leaders, stakeholders and committed progressives from across the state, held an interactive session in Ibadan on Thursday, September 17, 2026, to deliberate on the state of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State and the direction of the party ahead of the 2027 general elections. Following extensive discussions and careful assessment of recent developments within the party, the conference expressed concern over what it described as the diminishing influence of genuine progressives in the decision making process of the Oyo State APC and resolved to make the following observations and calls for the attention of party leaders, members and stakeholders:
BEING THE COMMUNIQUE ISSUED BY THE OYO STATE OYO STATE APC CENTRAL PROGRESSIVES CONFERENCE HELD IN IBADAN, THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 17,2026.
As we approach the 2027 general elections in the state, and having observed and assessed the state of our party and the diminishing status of the REAL Progressives within the Oyo State APC, we wish to state as follows:
1. We recall that at the commencement of the APC primary processes, the National Headquarters announced that it’s only the National Working Committee that can announce names of successful candidates. However, till this moment, no candidate has been directly and officially announced through the National Working Committee of the Party. It has all been speculations, which has cast damaging doubt in the minds of the silent majority of our party members .
2) We have equally observed with dismay, the current situation where our party leaders and other critical stakeholders are sidelined in the decision-making process, and their advice, all entirely ignored.
3) While the situation is disheartening and troubling, we continue to pretend that we are surprised at this development, because those currently taking these decisions are led by people with conservative tendencies and it would appear that they have effectively hijacked the party from those party members with undiluted progressive mindset.
4) We have sacrificed a lot for the progress of APC and it will be unforgivable if we fold our hands and allow them to destroy the only progressive party in Oyo State. We must protect the progressive ideologies handed to us by our forefathers – led by the late sage- Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, Pa Abraham Adesanya, Chief Bisi Akande, Chief Bola Ige, Lam Adesina, to mention just a few. It is imperative that this progressive ideology must not die, and we must hand it over to the future generation.
5) This interactive session therefore presents an opportunity for a clarion call on all true progressives to unite and rescue our great party from the disruptive conservative tendencies, who
are only using the Party for their selfish interest, because they know that the Progressive is the Party of the People of Oyo State.
6) It is also of strategic importance that the South West must vote massively for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the presidential election in January 2027.
It is on record that In 2023, we delivered the highest vote for the President and we must surpass that achievement substantially, come 2027.
