Oyo Rep Member ,Wẹ́rẹ́ Sustains Scholarship Scheme, Empowers Students

The member representing Atisbo, Saki East and Saki West Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Kareem Tajudeen Abisodun (Wẹrẹ), has disbursed scholarships to deserving students under the fourth edition of his flagship Funfunlogun Scholarship Scheme, reaffirming his commitment to educational advancement and youth development.

The scholarship presentation, held on Wednesday in Saki, Oyo State attracted prominent political stakeholders, party leaders, community representatives, legislative aides and beneficiaries, with participants commending the initiative and calling for the sustenance of his representation.

The intervention, which has been sustained over the last four years, is designed to alleviate the financial burden of education on students, promote academic excellence and expand access to educational opportunities across the constituency.

In a statement reflecting on the exercise, lawmaker through his Representatives described education as a strategic investment in the future of young people, stressing that empowering students through learning remained a fundamental pathway to individual advancement and societal development.

He noted that the fourth edition of the scholarship programme provided another opportunity to support students, encourage academic excellence and ease the financial challenges confronting beneficiaries.

According to him, investing in education transcends the provision of immediate financial assistance, as it involves nurturing talents, creating opportunities and preparing a generation capable of making meaningful contributions to society.

The lawmaker maintained that every child deserved the opportunity to acquire education, develop his or her potential and fulfil personal aspirations, assuring constituents of his continued commitment to educational development.

The event, however, assumed a significant political dimension as stakeholders used the occasion to canvass sustained support for Abisodun’s representation ahead of the 2027 general election.

Speaking at the gathering, former chairman of Saki West LGA Hon. Sarafadeen Omirinde, commended the lawmaker for what he described as an unprecedented commitment to youth development through educational interventions.

Omirinde maintained that no lawmaker in the history of the federal constituency had recorded achievements comparable to those attributed to Abisodun, particularly in the area of educational empowerment and grassroots-oriented representation.

He urged constituents to acknowledge the impact of the lawmaker’s interventions, insisting that his record of service deserved recognition and continued support.

Similarly, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the federal lawmaker, Hon. Sheu Shittu Megida, charged the beneficiaries to justify the confidence reposed in them by distinguishing themselves through academic excellence, discipline, integrity and exemplary conduct.

He urged the students to become worthy ambassadors of the Funfunlogun Scholarship Scheme, emphasising that the financial assistance should serve as a catalyst for greater academic commitment and responsible citizenship.

He maintained that the scholarship was not merely a financial intervention but a deliberate investment in the intellectual capacity and future productivity of the beneficiaries.

The media aide also offered fervent prayers for Abisodun’s electoral success in 2027, expressing optimism that his return to the National Assembly would provide an opportunity for him to sustain what he described as his beneficial interventions across the constituency.

In his remarks, an APC chieftain, Alhaji Tiamiyu Alarape, expressed gratitude to God for preserving the lives of the lawmaker and other participants, while urging the beneficiaries to remain focused on their academic pursuits.

He described the scholarship initiative, which has been sustained for four consecutive years, as a commendable demonstration of the lawmaker’s commitment to educational advancement and the welfare of his constituents.

A former Chairman charged the students to reciprocate the gesture by taking their studies seriously and striving for outstanding academic performances, noting that their success would constitute one of the most meaningful ways of appreciating the lawmaker’s generosity.

He further urged them to remain determined in the pursuit of their educational and career aspirations, stressing that the opportunities provided through the scheme should not be taken for granted.

Earlier, Alhaji Thabit Olofa delivered a message centred on political solidarity, collective responsibility and the imperative of promoting indigenous leadership.

A businessman cum politician cautioned against the tendency among constituents to undermine or pull down their own political leaders, urging them instead to cultivate a culture of appreciation, encouragement and constructive support for individuals who had demonstrated commitment to the development of their communities.

He argued that communities could only achieve meaningful political advancement when their people collectively recognised, protected and elevated leaders of their own extraction rather than becoming instruments of their political marginalisation.

While maintaining that, leadership should be assessed through tangible contributions to society, he insisted that constituents must learn to acknowledge the efforts of their own people and provide the necessary support for their continued political relevance.

His remarks resonated with the prevailing political sentiments at the gathering, where stakeholders repeatedly advocated continuity in Abisodun’s representation, encapsulated in the slogan, “Wẹrẹ Lekan Sì!”

Among other prominent stakeholders at the event were the Saki West APC Chairman, Alhaji Tajudeen Okunlola; former Saki West Local Government Chairman, Hon. Sarafadeen Omirinde; APC chieftain, Hon. Tiamiyu Alarape; legislative aides and other party faithful.

The beneficiaries, in their separate expressions of appreciation, lauded Abisodun for sustaining the scholarship scheme and extending financial assistance to students over the years.

They acknowledged the significance of the intervention in cushioning the financial pressures associated with pursuing higher education, while commending the lawmaker for prioritising the academic welfare of young people.
