PDP suspends Dino Melaye over anti-party activities

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended one of its prominent members, Senator Dino Melaye, following accusations of anti-party activities.

A letter released on Friday revealed that the suspension was executed by the ward party executive committee of Ayetoro/Iluagba Ward 1.

The decision came after reviewing the findings of a disciplinary committee set up to investigate Melayeโ€™s actions, which were deemed harmful to the PDPโ€™s interests and unity.

This is not the first time the PDP has suspended members over similar accusations. In August 2024, Peter Babalola, a chieftain from Osun State, was suspended for anti-party activities and failing to attend party meetings for two years.

Similarly, former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom faced suspension from the Benue PDP for alleged anti-party activities, while Senator Gabriel Suswam and others were summoned by the Benue PDP over accusations of gross misconduct.

The resolution of Melayeโ€™s suspension emphasized, โ€œSenator Dino Melayeโ€™s conduct has brought embarrassment and disrepute to the party and his continued membership is no longer tenable.

โ€œTherefore, the Ward party exco hereby suspends Dino Melaye from the Peoples Democratic Party, effective immediately.

โ€œThe suspension is in line with provisions of Article 59 (1) of the PDP constitution, which empowers the ward party excos to take disciplinary actions against erring members.โ€
